Meet Trishell Moore, IEI’s New AmeriCorps VISTA Member

Trishell Moore held many titles before coming to the Institute for Emerging Issues—state university student, pageant winner, retail manager. Now she’s bringing her talents and skills to IEI as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) member.

Trishell grew up in Ayden, a small town in eastern NC where her great-grandparents had a tobacco farm. She found a creative outlet in baton twirling, a skill she incorporated when she competed and was crowned in local and state pageants. 

In 2012, she moved to Raleigh to attend NC State University. She received her Associate’s degree in agriculture business management, then went on to get her Bachelor’s degree from NC A&T State University in agricultural education.

Now, Trishell is getting a graduate degree in agricultural education from NC A&T while she completes a service year as an AmeriCorps VISTA member. A service year is a paid, full-time position for people looking to improve people’s lives and make a lasting impact in communities across the country.

“I decided to join AmeriCorps because I am passionate about serving the community and about education and the impact that it has on children throughout the United States,” Trishell shared.

Trishell’s work will mainly focus on two IEI initiatives to support low-income communities across the state: Text, Talk, Future (TTF) and ReCONNECT NC. TTF is a texting-based program that engages students in conversations with their peers about career options after high school. ReCONNECT NC explores the root causes of disconnection in the state and highlights themes of reconnection to improve social, economic and health outcomes. 

“I am excited to work for IEI because of all the great things they’re doing to make a difference in the communities,” said Trishell.

In her free time, Trishell enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and 10-month old son Tristen.
