About IEI

Connecting North Carolina to ideas and North Carolinians to each other.

Our Purpose

Established in 2002 at NC State University, the Institute for Emerging Issues is a nonpartisan connector, bringing North Carolinians together across sectors, regions and perspectives to address the state’s most significant challenges while advancing its economic competitiveness. Through the annual Emerging Issues Forum, year-round programs and other initiatives, IEI fosters collaboration and consensus-building, helping individuals and leaders across the state turn ideas into action to build a stronger, more resilient North Carolina.

Our Mission

We unite leaders across sectors and communities to champion solutions for an economically vibrant North Carolina.

Our Vision

A North Carolina where people collaborate to build a more prosperous future for all.

Our Values

Collaboration – We foster internal and external partnerships, sharing knowledge, resources and perspectives to reduce silos and achieve shared goals.

Representation – We seek, welcome and elevate the perspectives and experiences of people from across the state, driving robust decision-making that leads to effective solutions for all.

Impact – We focus on making a measurable difference in North Carolina. We work with communities to facilitate shared understanding and action into meaningful, lasting results that address our collective needs.

Integrity – We commit to the highest standards of transparency in our work, serving as a reliable source of information to ensure trust and accountability, and as a responsible steward of all resources entrusted to us.
