Bio

Lucy Berrier Matheson is the Associate Director at IEI. Lucy oversees IEI’s policy and program initiatives, including the Emerging Issues Forum and community initiatives, working closely with the Director on organizational strategy and impact to ensure the Institute effectively supports North Carolina’s vibrancy and economic competitiveness.

Lucy is from Greensboro, NC. She received her bachelor’s degree in public policy from UNC-Chapel Hill, a master’s degree in education policy from George Washington University and a certificate in education finance from Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy. Prior to joining IEI, Lucy worked for multiple nationally-focused nonprofit organizations in roles that supported state and local leaders, policymakers and educational institutions by designing strategies, convening stakeholders and translating research into decisions that improved systems.

Lucy has been with IEI since 2026.
