Get to know Sharon:
Q: Tell us a bit about your background and how you came to IEI.
A: I originally started at NC State in 1991 as a temp in accounts payables/travel audit and was quickly permanently hired in the Food Science Department. I eventually moved on to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and came to IEI in 2011, working as an administrative support specialist, supporting the staff and processing financials and other various duties, until I retired in January 2023. I was fortunate to get rehired recently as a temp to assist with various business and financial services.
Q: What interests you about working at IEI? (Is there a particular program or area of work you’re most excited about?)
A: I love the work that IEI does for NC. For instance, digital inclusion, which was so important during the pandemic because of the rural areas lacking ways of connecting kids to classrooms and employees being able to connect to their workplaces.
Q: What do you believe is the biggest emerging issue facing our state?
A: I believe that affordable housing is the biggest emerging issue facing our state right now. We have so many people moving to NC because it is one of the best places to live, I believe, and we need to make sure we are prepared for not just middle class housing but low income housing as well.
Q: What kinds of things do you like to do for fun?
A: I like to watch reality shows, crime shows on ID, gardening, fishing and playing with my spoiled German Shepherd, Dougie.
Q: Is there anything else you want us to know about you?
A: I am so pleased and fortunate to be back with my fellow IEIers and look forward to making a positive and meaningful impact.
