About IEI

IEI connects North Carolinians across sectors, regions, and perspectives for collaborative work on key emerging issues affecting our state's future economic competitiveness.

Our Purpose

Established in 2002 at NC State University, the Institute for Emerging Issues is a nonpartisan connector, bringing North Carolinians together across sectors, regions and perspectives to address the state’s most significant challenges while advancing its economic competitiveness. Through the annual Emerging Issues Forum, year-round programs and other initiatives, IEI fosters collaboration and consensus-building, helping individuals and leaders across the state turn ideas into action to build a stronger, more resilient North Carolina.

The Institute for Emerging Issues convenes people and organizations from different perspectives, sectors, and backgrounds to address North Carolina’s critical and emerging policy issues. Hear from our stakeholders about the impact IEI has had on them and their communities.
