The Institute for Emerging Issues works hard to focus on bringing people together to make real change happen for North Carolina. The following stories represent just a sampling of some of our recent successes in each of our four issue areas: education, health, natural and built environments and economy.

See how the SECU Prize for Innovation (formerly known as the Emerging Issues Prize for Innovation) has enabled students to create programs for their peers that aim to increase high school graduation rates.

The “Generation Z” ambassadors from the 2012 Forum wanted to bolster coworking in North Carolina. In response, IEI surveyed the state of current coworking spaces, created a network of coworking owners, and inspired Holly Springs to explore creating its own coworking space.



In 2011, IEI commissioned a study to document the smart grid assets of the Triangle Region. With this research, the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster was launched and has raised more than $750,000 to focus on clean tech energy in the region.

As part of the 2011 Emerging Issues Forum on Healthcare Innovation, the IEI working group developed an allied health demonstration model to transition the rural, long-term unemployment into allied health careers, which is now being implemented by the Turning Point Regional Health Sciences Partnership.
