IEI Invites Applications for 2025-26 Hunt Internship

The Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) at North Carolina State University invites applications for the Governor and Mrs. James B. Hunt Internship Program. This program is for NC State undergraduates who are interested in a career in public service and/or public policy. There is one position available for the 2025-26 academic year.

Who We Are

Established in 2002, IEI is a public policy think tank and nonpartisan connector, bringing North Carolinians together to find solutions to the state’s emerging and most critical policy issues. Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. (1977-1985, 1993-2001) served as the founding chair of IEI’s National Advisory Board until 2014.

Position Description

IEI seeks a junior or senior undergraduate student with an interest in a career in public service and/or public policy. The Hunt Intern will work closely with a member of IEI’s policy and program team to provide support for the 2026 Emerging Issues Forum on water. This person will likely undertake a variety of activities, including research, secondary data collection and analysis, writing memos, staffing meetings and various administrative tasks related to IEI’s policy activities.

The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, a high comfort level with the Google Workspace–specifically Google Docs, Sheets and Slides–and excellent attention to detail. This position is part time (10 hours per week) at $15/hour beginning the week of August 18, 2025 and lasting through the Spring 2026 semester.

The selected candidate must be an NC State undergraduate student throughout the entire internship period. The position is located at IEI’s offices in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library and an ability to travel regularly to Centennial Campus is a must.
