IEI First in Future: NC Treasurer Dale Folwell

First in Future: Where Emerging Ideas Take Flight is a weekly program from the Institute for Emerging Issues (IEI) at NC State University that connects you with people thinking big thoughts about the future of North Carolina. Each week, we talk with business leaders, elected officials, researchers and people working bottom up and top down to make North Carolina great. We hope you’ll use their thinking to jumpstart your thinking about our state—where it is and where we might go together.

This week Institute for Emerging Issues Director Leslie Boney talks with North Carolina State Treasurer Dale Folwell, a man on a mission to show everyone in North Carolina just why they should care about the state’s pension fund and health plan. It’s an issue that may not be “sexy,” but has huge implications for all the state’s citizens. Also, he’s the only former motorcycle mechanic, former legislator and former head of employment security who is currently taking care of more money than Bill Gates . . . $112 billion dollars!
