Growth & Infrastructure

As North Carolina experiences rapid growth, enormous strain is being placed on our infrastructure systems. IEI convened a Business Committee on Infrastructure (BCI), to explore the viability of public-private partnerships (PPPs) for critical infrastructure projects. The BCI’s central recommendation for the creation of a Legislative Study Commission on PPPs was passed in the 2009 legislative session.

Appointments have been made to the Study Commission and meetings will be held in December. Click here to view the members of the Study Commission and check back in January to see what recommendations they pose to the General Assembly.

North Carolina is one of the fastest growing states in the nation. In fact, each hour adds 21 new North Carolinians to our state’s population, and by 2030, our state’s population will have increased by 50 percent, the equivalent of adding the entire population of South Carolina.

Because of these drastic changes our state will be facing in the coming years, IEI thought it was imperative our state begin thinking about how to manage this burgeoning population.
